Generations Theatre sets auditions for 'High School Musical'

Generations Theatre Company, based in New Prague, will hold auditions for its summer production, Disney's High School Musical, at the St. Wenceslaus Parish Activity Center April 22 and 23. Auditions are from 6 to 9 p.m. both days.

Disney's High School Musical is the stage version of the extremely popular TV movie of the same name. It is the story of two high school students: Troy Bolton, captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella Montez, a shy transfer student who excels in math and science. Together, they try out for the lead parts in their high school musical.

GTC will perform its version of High School Musical July 27, 28, 29, and August 3, 4 and 5 at the New Prague High School Auditorium.

Auditions will be limited to those 12 years old and older. Those interested in auditioning should be prepared to sing and dance. Actors need to come prepared with their own audition piece (song) to sing. An accompanist will be available. Rudimentary dance steps will be taught during the audition process. Adults trying out will be required to sing, but not dance.

The initial showing of High School Musical in 2005 was the highest rated movie ever aired on The Disney Channel. It has spawned two sequels, a concert tour and a series of books.

The stage version has been met with the same level of popularity as the movie. A recent run at the Children's Theatre in Minneapolis was completely sold out. GTC was one of the first theatre companies to obtain the rights to the play.

Elise Lundeen will direct of the play. She has been at the helm for several GTC productions, including The Wizard of Oz, The Odd Couple-The Female Version, Oliver and Deathtrap. Chris Plambeck will design and supervise the choreography, and Sandy Gallagher will supervise the music.

Primary support for GTC's 2006-2007 season has come from State Bank of New Prague. Other season sponsors include O'Neill, Traxler, Zard, Neisen and Morris, the New Prague Chamber of Commerce, through their charitable giving efforts, and Morris Abstract and Title.

Generations Theatre Company is a not-for-profit theatre company based in New Prague. Formed in 1999, the group has focused its efforts on creating family-friendly productions. In 2006, the group branched out, producing two non-musical productions and presenting a day-long arts festival.
