George Jake Pecholt, 95

George J. Jake Pecholt, 95, of New Prague, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague.

Born April 15, 1915, in New Prague, Jake was a son of Joseph and Josephine (Sauer) Pecholt. A lifelong resident of New Prague, he attended St. Wenceslaus School and New Prague Public Schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II from 1942-1945. Jake worked as a section man/track liner for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by 18 nephews and nieces including JoAnn (Alan) Malz, Jordan, Dr. Emil (Patricia) Pecholt, Blue Earth, Joseph (Betty) Pecholt, Heidelberg, David Pecholt, formerly of New Prague, Mark Pecholt, New Prague, Mary (Gregg) Westerhaus, Chicago, William (Marlene) Pecholt, Hastings, Ruth Ann (Ron) Kopet, New Prague, Joyce (Clifford) Denzer, Missouri, Robert Pecholt, New Prague, Allen Pecholt, Minneapolis, Darlene (Stanley) Pelcl, Chaska, Donna (Greg) Burns, Sturgeon Lake, Debbie Trowbridge, New Prague, Wayne Pecholt, New Prague, James Pecholt, New Prague, Brenda Pecholt (and special friend Troy Schreier), New Prague, and Joseph Peroutka, St. Paul; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings William J. Pecholt, Emil Pecholt, Josephine Pecholt and Joseph A. Peroutka; a nephew Daniel Pecholt; and nieces Sharon Moran and Karen Pecholt.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 31, at 10 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. David Barrett officiating.

Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague, with military rites conducted. Nephews served as pallbearers.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
