George Malecha, 85

George R. Malecha, 85, of Princeton, formerly of Montgomery, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina.

George was born in Veseli on March 2, 1925, a son of Joseph and Mary (Simon) Malecha. He grew up in the Veseli/New Market area. He entered the United States Marine Corps in 1944 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. George married Ludmilla Ludy Hruby at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery on November 25, 1946. He was employed by International Multifoods in New Prague as a machinist for 39 years. In 1999, the couple moved to Northfield for a short time before retiring in Princeton. George was active with the American Legion and VFW. He loved fishing, hunting and sports, especially baseball. He also enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Florida.

He is survived by his wife; children David Malecha (and special friend Jody Brooks), Flagler Beach, FL, Ron (Mary) Malecha, Kasson, Connie (Gordon) Shriver, Montgomery, Debbie (Russ) Stasney, Montgomery, and Terry (Justine) Malecha, Princeton; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother John Malecha, Hopkins; nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by two infant daughters Carol Ann and Jacqueline; his parents; brothers Melvin, Ernest and Joseph; sisters Rose Schultz, Lil Palma-Hendrickson and Angela Voracek; and nephews.

A Memorial Mass was held Monday, Jan. 3, at 11:30 a.m., at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery, with Rev. George Grafsky officiating. Military rites followed the Mass outside of the church.

Interment will be held at a later date at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Montgomery.

Visitation was held at the church on Monday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
