George Ruhland, 65
George J. Ruhland, 65, of Montgomery, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems Hospital in New Prague.
George was born on March 14, 1948, in New Prague, a son of Clayton and Sylvia (Pelant) Ruhland. He graduated from Montgomery High School. He married Darlene Malecha on June 5, 1971, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lonsdale. George worked for many years at Ruhland’s Red Owl in Montgomery as a butcher, K-Mart Distribution and Odenthal Meats. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council, and enjoyed woodworking, gardening, was an avid runner who ran many marathons, and truly loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife; children Michelle “Shelly” (Ron) Pexa, Heidelberg, Laura (Randy) Odenthal, Heidelberg, and Melissa (Nick) Worm, Prior Lake; grandchildren Josh, Kelsey, Abbigail and Jacob Pexa, Elizabeth and Julia Odenthal, and Christopher and Grace Worm; siblings Bill (Evelyn) Ruhland, Dick (Kathy) Ruhland, Ken Ruhland, and Mike (Barb) Ruhland, all of Montgomery, Sue (Fred) Roushar, Lonsdale, and Diane Muelken, New Prague; many nieces and nephews; and parents- in-law Albert and Millie Malecha of Montgomery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Joseph in infancy.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 13, at 11 a.m., at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery.
Burial is at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Montgomery.
Visitation was held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery, and Thursday at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
