George Vlasak, 90

George J. Vlasak, 90, Montgomery, died on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at Central Health Care Center in Le Center. 

George was born on April 12, 1920, at home in Montgomery Township, Le Sueur County, to Frank and Christine (Zoubek) Vlasak.  He attended District 60 Country School and graduated from Montgomery High School in 1938.  After graduation, he farmed with his father.  George married Evelyn Peterka on September 2, 1947, and together they operated the family farm until 1976.  He then worked for Hruby's John Deere Implement in Montgomery until his retirement in 1984.

In 1982 he sold the farm to his nephews, marking the fourth generation of Vlasak ownership, in continuous agricultural operation since 1873.  In 1982 he and his wife, Evelyn moved into the City of Montgomery, first living on Vine Avenue and then East Welco Drive. 

George was a lifelong member of Holy Redeemer Church, Montgomery. He served on the Montgomery Township Board for 18 years, the ASC Committee for Le Sueur County, the FHA Committee for Le Sueur County and was a member of the Farmer's Union, Central Livestock Association, and the GTA.

He and Evelyn were members of the Center 8's Square Dance Club.  Together they enjoyed traveling all 50 states, the Czech Republic, and cruising the Caribbean and the Panama Canal.

He is survived by Evelyn; children Jane (George) Brezina, New Prague, Michael (Jan) Vlasak, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Dianne (Rick) France, Carrollton, TX; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters Marion Jirak, Lucille Intlekofer, and Irene (Frank) Vinella; and sisters-in-law Helen Vlasak and Stella Vlasak.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Francis and Edward; sisters Adeline Krocak and Christina Tuma; and brothers-in-law Louis Krocak, George Tuma, Harry Jirak, and Charles Intlekofer.

Funeral services were held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on Monday, July 12, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. David Barrett officiating. 

Interment was held at Calvary Cemetery of Montgomery.

Visitation was held at Schoenbauer Funeral Home, Montgomery, on Sunday, July 11, from 4 to 8 p.m.
