Gerald Dahl, 87

Gerald Dahl, 87, of New Prague and formerly of Webster, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2004, at his home in New Prague.

Gerald Ludolph Dahl was born December 8, 1916, in Galesville, WI, son of Otis and Hannah (Christianson) Dahl. He was raised on the family farm where he helped with farm chores and attended country school. He then worked on neighboring farms as a hired farm hand for a number of years.

Gerald continued to work on farms in the area until 1941 when they moved to the Kenyon area where Gerald was hired as a farm hand. From 1944-1955 they farmed on shares near Dennison, and in 1955 they bought their own farm near Webster.

In addition to farming, Gerald began working at the Armour Meat Packing Plant in South St Paul in 1950. He continued to do both jobs for 27 years retiring in 1977 although he had sold the milk herd in 1967.

Gerald had a love for horses and for many years he and Ron would head to Open Horse Shows on many summer Sundays where they would compete in barrels, pole weaving and the key hole race. He was also a good bowler and participated in Men’s League for a number of years in Lonsdale. He and Adeline both loved old time music and loved to dance the polkas. They could often be found dancing at the Northfield Ballroom or the Park Ballroom in New Prague.
