Gertrude Meger, 84

Gertrude Elizabeth Meger, age 84, of rural Le Center, died on Monday, February 5, 2018 at The Villages of Lonsdale. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill with visitation one hour prior at church. Father George Grafsky will be officiating. Burial will be held in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Lexington.

Gertrude was born on August 21, 1933 in Belle Plaine Township on the family farm to Martin and Catherine (Michel) Neisen. Gertrude was united in marriage to Richard Meger on June 30, 1953 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill. After raising their 10 children, Gertrude worked at Sponsel’s Apple Orchard near Jordan for many years. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and travelling, but her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family. She was very active in volunteering with the New Prague KC Auxiliary, 4-H, the Southwest Deanery, Peace Center, Hospital Auxiliary, CCW, and was chosen as the Le Sueur County Outstanding Senior Citizen,

Gertrude is survived by her husband, Richard Meger of rural Le Center; children, Connie (Greg) VonBank of Montgomery, Maureen (John) Busse of Belle Plaine, Bev (Terry) Wagner of Webster, Rick (Lori) Meger of Le Center, Pete (Barb) Meger of Belle Plaine, Judy (Brett) Olson of New Prague, JoAnne (Paul) Maruska of New Prague, Chuck Meger of St. Thomas, Mary (Dave) Dooley of Lonsdale, and Bill (Lisa) Meger of St. Thomas; 29 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille Schmitz of New Prague; sisters-in-law, Betty Neisen of Belle Plaine, Theresa McNamara of Bloomington, and Mary Meger of Prior Lake.

Gertrude is preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters; and 3 brothers.
