Giles wins, Dunkel loses at state wrestling

Gaige Giles of New Prague pinned Noah Lefebvre of Foley in 5:42 to win his opening round match at 152 pounds at the State Class AA wrestling tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. He will face Zach Glazier of Albert Lea in his second round match later today. 

The Trojans’ Colby Dunkel lost his opening match at 106 pounds, falling 9-0 to Nic Cantu of Albert Lea. He waits the result of a match between Cantu and top-seeded and unbeatedn Matthew Petersen of Byron to determine whether he continues in the consolation round. If Petersen wins, Dunkel’s season is over. If Cantu wins, Dunkel will face Petersen in the wrestlebacks.
