Girls fall to 'Tonka, Hopkins

The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team is in the midst of some tough competition, and it is showing on their record.

After starting the season 4-0, the Trojans dropped their third straight game to a Class AAAA school Saturday, losing to No. 1-ranked Hopkins 77-38.

Earlier in the week the Trojans fell by three points to a strong Minnetonka squad. A week earlier they lost to Eastview (No. 5, Class AAAA).

New Prague (4-3, No. 7 Class AAA) was scheduled to host Holy Family Catholic Tuesday, Dec. 21, after this edition of The New Prague Times went to press. The Trojans will return to action Thursday, Dec. 30, at home against Waseca. Game time is 4 p.m.

Skippers 52, Trojans 49

New Prague led by three with about a minute left, but committed a couple of turnovers that allowed the Skippers to tie the game on a three-pointer and then claim the win.

The Trojans trailed 29-23 at halftime, but came back to take the late lead. Anna Rynda had 15 of her team-high 17 points in the second half. Makayla Reimers added 10. Also scoring for the Trojans were Maggie Seter with nine, Taylor Rookaird with eight, Sara Rookaird four and Lexi Ruehling one.

Royals 77, Trojans 38

Hopkins opened to a 14-3 lead and were in control throughout the game.

For most of the game, the lead wavered between 12 and 20 points, but the Royals wore down the Trojans and over the last 10 minutes they ran away from the Trojans.

Rynda had 18 points to lead New Prague. Seter added eight, Reimers and Taylor Rookaird had three each and Lauren Carr, Sara Rookaird and Emily Rezac had two each.
