Girls hockey shut out twice

The New Prague High School girls hockey team continues to struggle offensively. The Trojans were shut out twice last week by two of the top teams in the Missota Conference, Shakopee and Holy Angels.

New Prague (4-12-1, 0-5-1 Missota) hosted Hutchinson Tuesday, Jan. 13. On Friday the team travels to Northfield for a 7:30 p.m. game, then they return home to play Farmington Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Sabers 4, Trojans 0

New Prague kept things close, trailing 1-0 after one period, but the Sabers scored twice late in the second period on their way to a 4-0 win over New Prague.

The Trojans had chances to tie the game in the second and put good pressure on the Shakopee goalie during a power play. But when the penalty expired, the Sabers got the puck to center ice and the skater coming out of the penalty box took the pass and skated in all alone to make it a 2-0 score. Shakopee scored again two minutes later and added another in the third.

The Sabers outshot the Trojans 43-16. Shyler Sletta stopped 39 shots for the Trojans.

Holy Angels struck quickly with a power play goal at 1:47, then added four goals in the final 3:04 of the first period to take a 5-0 lead. They added power play goals in the second and third to make the final 7-0.

The Stars outshot New Prague 44-7. Brittney Sickmann stopped 37 shots for the Trojans.
