Girls hockey team gets No. 1 seed in Section 1A

New Prague, the two-time defending Section 1A girls hockey champions, once again received the top seed in the upcoming section tournament.

There are 15 teams in the section, which means the Trojans will get a first round bye and open the playoffs in the quarterfinals against the winner of Tuesday’s game between No. 9 Waseca and No. 8 Northfield.

Austin, Mankato West and New Ulm rounded out the top four in the seedings. New Prague has not played Austin this year, but defeated West 4-0 and New Ulm 7-1. Both those games were in November.

First round games on Tuesday include:

15-Redwood Valley at 2-Austin

14-Worthington at 3-Mankato West

13-Luverne at 4-New Ulm

12-Windom at 5-Faribault

11-Mankato East at 6-Albert lea

10-St. Peter/Le Sueur-Henderson at 7-Marshall

9-Waseca at 8-Northfield

Quarterfinal games are scheduled for Thursday, at the site of higher seed. Semifinals and finals are Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 14 and 16, at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.
