Girls hockey team rebounds after loss to Chaska

New Prague suffered its first loss of the year in girls hockey Tuesday, Nov. 22, with a 4-3 loss to Chaska. They rebounded with a 7-1 win over New Ulm Saturday.

The Trojans open their Missota Conference season Friday, Dec. 2, when they host Hutchinson. They play at Northfield Tuesday, Dec. 6, and travel to Burnsville for a non-conference game Thursday, Dec. 8.

Hawks 4, Trojans 3

Coach Dan Gullickson wanted to toughen up his team’s schedule a bit to better prepare it for another run at the state tournament, so they added a pair of games against Chaska and Burnsville, two teams from the powerful Lake Conference.

Playing Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Chaska, the Trojans showed they weren’t intimidated as Jodie Jabas scored just 14 seconds into the game, giving them a 1-0 lead.

But the Hawks tied it and took a lead in the second period. They were leading 3-1 after a goal early in the third period, when Kacy Ambroz scored at 4:14. The Trojans scrambled trying to tie the game, but the Hawks’ defense was stingy and their offensive lines were persistent, as Chaska outshot the Trojans 12-6 in the third period and 33-15 for the game. The Hawks went up 4-2, but Ambroz kept her team in it, with a shorthanded goal at 14:54. That was as close as they’d get, though, as Chaska hung on for the win.

I was happy with the way we played but we just kept shooting ourselves in the foot
