Girls hockey wins home tournament

The New Prague Trojan girls hockey team won its home invitational tournament, defeating River Lakes and Rogers on Friday and Saturday.

Earlier in the week the Trojans scored an exciting overtime win over Holy Angels. The squad is now 4-1 (1-0 Missota).

The Trojans were scheduled to play at St. Peter/Le Sueur-Henderson Tuesday evening. They will be at Farmington Thursday, Dec. 2, before hosting Northfield Tuesday, Dec. 7.

Trojans 3, AHA Stars 2

Brittany Sticha scored with five seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime, and Dani Kocina scored at 3:58 of overtime to give the Trojans a 3-2 overtime win over Holy Angels at Richfield Tuesday, Nov. 23.

The Trojans had gotten off to a good start with Kasey Marquardt scoring midway through the first period, with assists from Erica Ferrazzo and Mikaela Algren, but the Stars answered a short time later with a power play goal to tie the game at 1-1.

Holy Angels made it a 2-1 game with a second-period goal.

Algren and Kendra Collier set up Sticha's goal, which came on a 6-on-4 power play as the Trojans had pulled the goaltender for an extra attacker after a Holy Angels' penalty. Lindsay and Hallie Paschke set up Kocina on the game-winner, with Sticha tipping a hard shot from the blue line.

New Prague outshot the Stars 36-16. Shyler Sletta stopped 14 shots.

Trojans 3, RL Stars 1

New Prague won the opening game of its invitational tournament Friday afternoon, Nov. 26, with a 3-1 win over River Lakes, a seven-school cooperative hosted by Rocori High School.

The Trojans got two goals in the first period. Sticha scored on assists from Lindsay and Hallie Paschke, and Marquardt scored unassisted to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead.

The Trojans shut out the Stars throughout the second period and into the final minute of the third when River Lakes pulled their goalie for an extra attacker and scored at 16:10. New Prague answered, though when Lindsay Paschke scored an empty net goal with an assist from Hallie Paschke at 16:34.

River Lakes outshot the Trojans 33-20, but Sletta had a great game in goal, making 32 saves.

Trojans 3, Royals 2

Lindsay Paschke scored two goals and Hallie Paschke the other as the Trojans came from behind to defeat Rogers 3-2 in the championship game of the New Prague Tournament Saturday.

Rogers scored the game's first goal on a power play in the second period, but the Trojans came back to tie it at 6:21 of the second with Lindsay Paschke scoring on an assist from her sister Hallie.

After Rogers score to take a 2-1 lead in the third, Hallie Paschke answered less than three minutes later with an unassisted goal. The Trojans got the game-winner with a goal by Lindsay Paschke, assisted by Sticha and Hallie Paschke at 15:08.

Rogers outshot the Trojans 44-28, including 15-3 in the first period. Sletta stopped 42 shots for New Prague.
