Girls run with the pack to place 2nd at Shakopee

The New Prague Trojan girls cross country team placed second at the nine-team Shakopee Invitational Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Memorial Park in Shakopee.

The Trojans were going up against two of the top teams in Section 2AA and finished ahead of Chanhassen, a state tournament entrant last year. However coach Julie Berg said the Storm did not run their full varsity team at the meet, resting them for the Missota Conference meet which was scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 19, at New Prague. The Section 2AA meet is Thursday, Oct. 28, at Willmar.

Shakopee won the meet with 56 points, three fewer than the Trojans' 59. Chanhassen took third with 90, followed by Farmington (112), Northfield (130), St. Francis (163), Richfield (169), Robbinsdale Cooper (181) and St. Paul Central (212).

Defending state champion Maria Hauger of Shakopee won the meet with a time of 14 minutes, 21.8 seconds.

The Trojans had a balanced lineup, with all seven varsity runners finishing in the top 23 and within 40 seconds of each other.

Our team put a new competitive attitude in our heads as we approached our final meets of the season
