Girls soccer tops Jefferson in OT

The New Prague Trojan girls soccer team started their 2017 season on a winning note Thursday, Aug. 24, with a thrilling overtime win over Bloomington Jefferson.

Also last week, the Trojans lost to Lakeville South and Lakeville North.

New Prague opens its Wright County Conference schedule at home Thursday, Aug. 31, against Mound Westonka. They host Mankato West on Tuesday, Sept. 5, and travel to Glencoe- Silver Lake on Thursday, Sept. 7.

Trojans 2, Jaguars 1 It was New Prague’s season opener, played under the lights at Trojan Stadium against Bloomington Jefferson, and the energy was high, according to New Prague Coach Matt Anderson. “The girls played with energy and composure,” Anderson said. “It was scoreless at halftime, but Jefferson scored less than a minute into the second half. The reason we came back and won was because the girls did not panic or lose their composure after going down a goal. Instead, they increased their energy and effort and continued playing our game.” Lana Krautkremer tied the game at 1-1 in the 62nd minute, assisted by Melia Morris. The game went to overtime, and Aidan McLoone scored the game-winner in the 88th minute, unassisted. Trojan goalkeeper Lindsey Bjerke made 16 saves and shut down many Jefferson chances, holding them to just one goal.

Cougars 3, Trojans 0 New Prague hosted Lakeville South Friday, Aug. 25, and while they lost 3-0, Anderson said the game was much closer than the score indicated.
