Girls take 3rd at Missota Relays

The New Prague Trojan girls track and field team competed in the Missota Relays Tuesday, April 30, in Chaska and placed third of eight teams.

New Prague was scheduled to compete in the Section 1AAA True Team meet Tuesday, May 7, at Lakeville North. They will run Friday, May 10, in the Chanhassen Quadrangular and Thursday, May 16, at Shakopee.

Missota Relays Coach Johnny Josephson said the conditions were ideal for the meet, a welcome change from the weather the team has seen this spring. It was only the second outdoor meet for the Trojans, who have had four other meets cancelled this season due to weather conditions.

Chanhassen won the meet, with 181 points, three points better than second place Farmington. The Trojans had 137, followed by Shakopee (123), Chaska (115), Northfield (105), Red Wing (88) and Holy Angels (50).

At the conference relays, all events are held in a relay format. For distance races, hurdles and field events, the events are held individually, with the times or measurements added together to determine a team score.

New Prague placed first in three events, and senior Sydney Samson had a hand in all three. The Trojans won the shuttle hurdles (with Samson, Marissa Ekness, Jessica Allar and Keegan Mulvihill), the 300 hurdles (Samson, Grace Yackly, Ekness and Alexis Solheid) and the triple jump (Samson, Monica Kuehl and Solheid).

The Trojans took second in the Throwers 4x100 (Sophie Smith, Rachel Thompson, Kayla Kroyer and Ashley Altschul) and the shot put (Thompson, Emily Vikla and Kroyer).

Third place finishers included the 4x800 relay (Maria Berg, Maizie Deihl, Mikaela Algren and Tasha Bennett), the discus (Vikla, Thompson and Kroyer) and the high jump (Sophie Puente, Mulvihill and Kassi Vivant)
