Girls top Red Wing for state tourney berth
The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team washed away the bad taste in their mouths from a year ago as they dominated action in the Section 1AAA championship game against Red Wing.
The Trojans won the game by a 63-38 score. The win sends New Prague (25-4) to the State Class AAA tournament for the third time in four years and sixth time overall. They were scheduled to face Worthington (24-2) at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Williams Arena, after this edition of The New Prague Times went to press.
The loser of that game is eliminated, while the winner will face either Minneapolis North or Grand Rapids in the semifinals at noon Thursday at Target Center. The state championship game will be played at 6 p.m. Saturday at Target Center, with the third place game scheduled for 2 p.m. at Concordia University in St. Paul.
