Goldie A. Sauer, age 101

Goldie A. Sauer, age 101, of New Prague, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, December 30, 2016. Goldie was born on September 18, 1915, in Ludden, North Dakota, to Herbert and Sarah (Turner) Robins. She graduated from Oakes High School and Valley City Teachers College, both in North Dakota.

On June 14, 1941, Goldie married George J. Sauer in Oakes, ND and Goldie taught elementary school in a 1-room schoolhouse near Valley City, ND and at Devils Lake Reservation.

She was a woman of many interests and remained active throughout her life. She enjoyed gardening and was a beautiful seamstress. Physical activity and sports were also important to her; she loved to golf and swim. In fact, she enjoyed exercising to Richard Simmons until she was 100 years old!

In her quieter moments, reading and cards rounded out her activities. But the most important love of her life was time with family and the very special relationship she had with her beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was always up for adventure and never said no to any suggestion of any thought of fun!

Goldie is survived by her daughters, Katherine Flynn of Edina and Patricia (John) Hardy of Myponga, South Australia; son, Joseph Sauer of Minneapolis; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, George, on November 28, 1997; daughter, Georgia Meskan; son-in-law, John Meskan; brother, Edward Robins; sisters, Dorothy Cross, Luverne Ulmer, Vivian Mair.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 6, 2017, at 10:00 AM at Lakewood Cemetery Chapel in Minneapolis with Father David Barrett officiating. Visitation will be held from 9-10 AM at the chapel with burial following Mass also at Lakewood Cemetery. A luncheon will be held following the burial.
