Grace Simota, 87

Grace D. Simota, 87, of Sun Haven Assisted Living in Le Center, formerly of New Prague, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at The Lodge on Natchez in Elko.

Grace was born November 27, 1920, in Chaska, a daughter of Frank and Molly (Zemple) Zamjahn. She was raised at Chaska, attended Chaska Public Schools and moved to the New Prague area after marriage. She played basketball in high school and enjoyed speed skating at Depot Lake in Chaska. Grace married George F. Simota on January 24, 1948, at Chaska. She was a homemaker and helped her husband with farming in Helena Township. She candled eggs for Emil Dvorak in New Prague and also worked at Green Giant in Montgomery. Grace enjoyed the farm animals and had a large garden. She also helped as a ticket taker and sold concessions for the New Prague Robins baseball team.

She is survived by children John (Mary Sue) Simota, Montgomery and Mary (Stanley J.) Dvorak, Lakeville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings Margaret Pagelkopf, Chaska and Martin (Mary) Zamjahn, Rochester.

She was preceded in death by her husband on October 16, 1990; three sons Frank G. Simota and twin sons in infancy; her parents; five brothers George, Ernest, Frank, Clarence and Ted Zamjahn; and three sisters Alice Zamjahn, Julie Zamjahn and Molly Ryski.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating.

Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague. Pallbearers were five grandchildren Tom Simota, Tim Simota, Tracy Novak, Nick Dvorak and Nate Dvorak, and grandson-in-law Dale Novak.

Visitation as held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
