Grapplers split at Delano meet
The New Prague Trojans went 1-1 against a pair of Section 2AA rivals in a three-team meet at Delano Thursday, Dec. 9. New Prague defeated Delano, but lost to Watertown-Mayer/Mayer Lutheran.
New Prague was scheduled to compete in the Chanhassen/Chaska Invitational Saturday, Dec. 11, but that meet was cancelled due to the snow.
The Trojans (5-2) were scheduled to face Montgomery-Lonsdale/Le Center and Waseca in a triangular at Montgomery Tuesday. They will travel to Olivia Thursday, Dec. 16, for a three-team meet with BOLD and Paynesville, then on Tuesday, Dec. 21, they compete in another three-team meet with Blue Earth and Le Sueur-Henderson at Le Sueur. Five of those six teams are ranked opponents.
Trojans 46, Tigers 21
New Prague jumped to a 31-0 lead, winning the first six matches. Griffin Parriott and Trevor Westerlund opened with a pair of pins and James Berg followed with an 8-2 decision to make it 15-0. Richard Reinartz and Morgan Parriott both had forfeit wins, and Dakota Cole earned a 14-2 major decision to give the Trojans the early cushion.
Delano won the next three matches, but Alex Mueller earned a 6-5 win at 160 pounds and Cody Sirek followed with a pin at 171 to make it 40-13. Jesse Tuma also had a forfeit win for New Prague at 215 pounds.
Royals 37, Trojans 32
New Prague again took an early lead, but Watertown-Mayer won three straight matches late in the contest to take a 37-32 win over the Trojans.
Griffin Parriott extended his record to 7-0 at 103 pounds. The seventh grader had a 19-2 technical fall. The Royals got a decision at 112, but Berg countered with a fall at 119 to put New Prague up 11-3.
Morgan Parriott kept pace with his younger brother with a fall at 130 to go to 7-0 on the season, and Cole followed with another fall at 145 to give the Trojans a 23-6 lead.
Watertown-Mayer scored three wins to pull to within two points before Alex Mueller gave New Prague a 26-21 lead with a 9-2 decision.
The Royals got a fall and a major decision to take a 37-26 lead going into the final match. The Trojans' Brandon Svoboda scored a pin to make the final 37-32.
We wrestled well against both Delano and Watertown Mayer
