A great start to the holidays!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, as the song says, and that sentiment was strong in New Prague last weekend.
Families lined up along Main Street in anticipation for the Holiday Parade of Lights and waved enthusiastically at the entries, culiminating with the arrival of Santa Claus riding on the back of a New Prague Fire Truck.
At Memorial Park, many more families were waiting, as they sipped hot cocoa and enjoyed treats while the Community Christmas Tree was lit.
The New Prague Historical Society had the Centennial Cabin open and decorated for the Christmas season, and the New Prague Czech Singers provided Christmas Carols - sung in Czech - inside the cabin. Finally, the event culminated with an impressive fireworks display. RES Specialty Pyrotechnics, a local company that produces huge shows all over the world, left people “oohing” and “aahing” as shells exploded high above Memorial Park.
Hats off to all those involved in making the evening a memorable one, from the New Prague Chamber of Commerce for putting together the events, the many groups that took part in the parade, the Historical Society and Czech Singers, the Boy Scouts for providing fire rings and to Scott Equipment for sponsoring the fireworks celebration.
It provided a great start to a wonderful time.
