Groups strive to celebrate Czech culture

Breanna Bisek, Sesquicentennial Writer

New Prague is proud of its Czech background. There are many people who work hard to share and preserve the beauty of the Czech legacy by forming the Czech Heritage and Social Club and the New Prague Czech Singers, groups that hope to keep the memories of the past alive for future generations to enjoy.

The New Prague Czech Heritage and Social Club was formed in the fall of 2000. Marian Topic was one of the founders. She has been teaching Czech language classes locally for more than 15 years, and the club was born out of these classes. She and her students decided they needed to form a club and not be tied down to classes.

Although some members have different zip codes, including affiliates from Farmington, Rochester, and Le Sueur, they all share the same love and interest in Czech culture. Deb and Arnie Ziscovsky are co-presidents of the 40 member-group. Their common goal, explained by Topic, is to Preserve the Czech heritage we have around here
