Gymnasts finish 3rd at state true team meet

The New Prague High School gymnastics team had a successful week, topping the 140-point mark in two Missota Conference dual meets. They followed that with an impressive third-place finish at the State Class A True Team meet at Fairmont Saturday, Jan. 29.

The Trojans had their final dual meet of the season Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Red Wing. They are preparing for the Missota Conference meet, which will be held at the New Prague Gymnastics Center on Friday, Feb. 11.

Trojans 141.35,

Tigers 140.875

New Prague won just one of four events, but the margin of victory was enough on the balance beam to offset narrow losses on the other three events as they held on for a narrow win at Farmington Tuesday, Jan. 25.

The Trojans trailed by two points after the uneven bars, but then had a strong finish on the beam and held on as Farmington finished with a strong showing on the floor exercise.

Brianna Ellanson won the all-around competition by 34.175, just .075 points better than Farmington's Kylie Wharton. Ellanson took second on the vault, third on the floor and fourth on the bars.

Sarah Hoffman took first on the beam with a 9.4 and third on the vault. Jess Niedermayer was third on the beam and fourth on the floor and Marissa Ekness had a career high on the beam, taking second with a 9.35.

It was a nice win for us
