Gymnasts top StormHawks twice

The New Prague Trojan gymnastics team had an unusual week, facing the same team twice in four days.

New Prague defeated Chanhassen/Chaska in both meets, raising their record to 7-1 (4-1 Missota).

The Trojans are ranked No. 2 in Class A, behind Melrose. They will host Northfield (No. 1, Class AA) Friday, Jan. 20, hoping to avenge their lone loss of the season. On Saturday, Jan. 21, they will compete in the Jackson Sweetheart Invitational. New Prague hosts Farmington Tuesday, Jan 24.

Trojans 144.225, StormHawks 134.175

New Prague posted its best score of the season at Chanhassen Tuesday, Jan. 10, with 144.225 points.

The Trojans competed with their top all-arounder, Brianna Ellanson, limited to just one event due to a sore back. In addition, they lost bar specialist Ashley Nerud to in injury after she fell on her dismount.

Sara Hoffman finished first in all three of her events, the vault (9.325) beam (9.325) and floor (9.35). Jess Niedermayer took first on bars (9.25).

Taking second for the Trojans were Jamie Niedermayer on vault (9.075) and Christine Simon on bars (9.125).

Third place finishers were Brianna Ellanson on bars (8.9), and Jess Niedermayer on beam (9.025) and floor exercise (9.275).

Taking fourth for the Trojans were Marissa Ekness and Sydney Samson tied on vault (8.7) and Jamie Niedermayer on beam (8.775) and floor (9.225).

Bridget Ellanson was second on the all-around, scoring a 33.8.

The JV scored a 131.8 to win their meet. Top Trojans were Jess Niedermayer on vault (8.7), Jamie Niedermayer on bars (8.7), Taylor Minnick on beam (8.3) and Samson on floor (8.95).

Trojans 142.775, StormHawks 133.9

The Trojans won the home-half of their back-to-back meets with Chanhassen/Chaska, scoring 142.775 on Friday, Jan. 13.
