Gymnasts will try to defend True Team title Saturday at Melrose

New Prague will try to defend the Minnesota Girls Gymnastics Coaches Association State Class A True Team gymnastics title Saturday at Melrose.

The Trojans are the four-time defending champion at the meet. Last year, they prevailed by 15 one-hundredths of a point over Melrose, at the meet held in New Prague. The 10 top-ranked teams in Class A gymnastics are invited to the meet.

The True Team meet will be part of a busy week for the Trojans, one that will see them compete five times in eight days as they wind down their regular season. On Friday, they compete at Farmington. On Tuesday, Feb. 1, they will travel to Red Wing. On Thursday, Feb. 3, the Trojans will travel to Northfield to make up a meet that was postponed last Friday due to the snowstorm. New Prague will host Prior Lake in a Senior Night meet on Friday, Feb. 4, at the New Prague Gymnastics Center, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Last week, the Trojans defeated Prior Lake and had two meets cancelled. In addition to the Northfield meet, the Trojans were unable to travel to Jackson for the Sweetheart Invitational, where they had hoped to defend their title.

Trojans 141.05, Lakers 130.45

Coach Matt Shetka said last week's meet at Prior Lake was not a great outing for his team. We got off to a poor start on the vault
