Habitat House work takes 'first step'

Patrick Fisher, Staff Writer

I'm excited because this is the first step.

That was how Jennifer Zahratka of New Prague described her feelings during the Thursday, June 3, groundbreaking ceremony for the Habitat for Humanity house. She and her daughter Annabelle will be owners of the house, to be built at 108 Third St. NW.

The structure that will go up south of the New Prague Central Education Campus is the third one to be built in the community under the program.

Sister Jean Juenemann, New Prague Habitat Coordinator, led the program that was attended by family and friends of Zahratka. Also present were Mayor W.A. Bink Bender, Joan Goggins and Sue Karan, members of the city's Habitat for Humanity selection committee and principal Pat Pribyl of Raven Stream Elementary School. Deacon Bob Wagner of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church offered a blessing of the grounds.

He noted about apartment projects completed in the Twin Cities and they were great programs. They can house a lot of people
