Harold Kukacka, 68

Harold R. Kukacka, 68, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at his home in New Prague, surrounded by his family. 

He was born in New Prague on June 27, 1942, a son of Louis and Lillian (Dejchmar) Kukacka. He graduated from Montgomery High School and served in the United States Army Reserves from January 1962 until August 1967. Harold worked for Harvestor (silo) Construction for 35 years, and then worked on his own in farming and construction. After retiring, he went back to work for Witt Construction in New Prague. Harold married Sue Hughes at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery on January 12, 1985. He loved gardening, playing cards, listening to the radio, reading and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; five children Harold Jr., Montgomery, Brian, Le Center, Jesse, New Prague, Tammy (Bryce) Teply, Lonsdale, and Crystal (and fiance Dan) Kukacka, New Prague; five siblings Clayton Kukacka, Waseca, Joel Kukacka, Heidelberg, Leon Kukacka, Le Center, Lucy Connolly, Raymondville, MO, and Lila Korbel, Tennessee; his former wife Grace Kukacka, Montgomery; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Clarence and Jeff Kukacka; and a nephew Leslie Kukacka.

Funeral services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery on Thursday, March 10, at 11 a.m. 

Burial will be at the Czech National Cemetery in New Prague, with military honors provided by the Montgomery Area Veterans Honor Guard. 

Visitation was held at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery on Wednesday, March 9, from 5 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
