Hazel Swedin, 93

Hazel J. Swedin, 93, of Farmington, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at Three Links Care Center in Northfield. Hazel was born on June 5, 1919, a daughter of John and Helma (Johnson) Anderson, and resided on the family farm southwest of Lakeville. She attended Lakeville District 65 country school for her education and thereafter worked for the Akin family in Farmington, helping with children and cooking for the family, as well as other families. Hazel married Henry Swedin on October 14, 1944, at the West Christiania Lutheran Church. They made their home in rural Lakeville, until moving to Farmington in 1957. When her children were all in school, she worked at Sanford Hospital, Frederick Willes and Peerless Plastic in Farmington. Hazel enjoyed playing cards, sewing baby quilts, embroidery work, dancing, cooking, baking, and getting together with family and friends. She is survived by her husband; children Marilyn Grassmann, New Prague, Jerry (Elaine) Swedin, Lakeville, and Howard (Mary) Swedin, Jim (Susan) Swedin, and John (Diane) Swedin, all of Farmington; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters Ruby Hagen, Lakeville and Esther Loesch, Northfield; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Henry and Roy Anderson, Alice Garre and Glenna Miner; and son-in-law James Grassmann. Visitation and funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 22, at Christiania Lutheran Church of rural Lakeville, with interment at the East Christiania Cemetery. Arrangements were with the White Funeral Home in Farmington.
