Helen Hamer, 92

Helen M. Hamer, 92, of Jordan, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at The Lutheran Home of Belle Plaine.

Born at home in Jordan on June 28, 1919, Helen was a daughter of Jacob and Margaret (Schaak) Weckman. She was raised in Jordan, attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School and graduated from Jordan High School in 1936. While in high school and for a time after, she worked for her brother, Elmer, at Elmer's Bakery in Jordan. On Oct. 15, 1941, she married Robert Hamer at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan. After Robert was drafted into the U.S. Navy during World War II, she lived for a time on the East Coast and then later on the West Coast. After Robert was discharged, they moved back to Jordan. She was a homemaker most of her life, but for a time worked at Wagner's Supper Club in Jordan, and later at the Plastic Factory in Belle Plaine. Helen was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. and Catholic Aid. She sang with the St. John's Choir in Jordan and enjoyed square dancing, gardening and bowling.

She is survived by children Ardie (Theresa), Jordan, Fred, Elk River, Rick, California, Roberta "Bertsie" (Jerry) Stevens, Hopkins, and Robert Everett, California; grandchildren Emily, Nora and Clare Hamer, Jordan, Vincent Hamer, California, Marisa, Robert, Gina and Annette Everett, California, Sarah Hamer, North Carolina; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son Kevin; daughter Adrienne Everett; her parents; brothers Elmer and Julian Weckman; sister Andrina Radermacher; and granddaughter Crystal.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan, with Rev. Timothy Yanta officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Jordan. Pallbearers will be her family.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Wagner Funeral Home in Jordan, and one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church on Friday.
