Helgerson to withdraw as superintendent candidate

Matt Helgerson, superintendent at Tri-City United Schools, has accepted the superintendent's job at Jordan Public Schools, and will withdraw as a semifinalist for the New Prague superintendent post, the Montgomery Messenger reported Friday, March 15. 

Helgerson, who lives in New Prague, was one of seven semifinalists scheduled to be interviewed next week for the New Prague opening. He had been co-superintendent in Le Center before taking over as superintendet for both Le Center and Montgomery-Lonsdale in 2011. He guided the two district through the consolidation process that culminated with the formation of Tri-City United Schools last summer. 

Six semifinalists remain for the New Prague position, Gary Anger, principal at Red Pine Elementary School in Eagan; Tim Dittberner, principal at New Prague Middle School; Teri Preisler, central office administrator for Owatonna Schools; Dr. Jamie Skjeveland, superintendent at Crosby-Ironton Schools; Kevin Wellin, superintendent at New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Schools, and Greg Winter, superintendent at Braham Schools and a former teacher in New Prague. Interviews will take place March 19 and 20, after which three finalists will be named. They will be interviewed the following week, after which school board members will select the new superintendent.
