Henderson man dies in truck fire near New Prague

A Henderson man was killed shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday morning when the pickup truck he was driving went off the road and caught fire four miles west of New Prague.

David J. Wendorff, 25, of Henderson, was driving west of New Prague on Highway 19 when witnesses said the truck veered off of the highway, went through a ditch and travelled for about a third of a mile before coming to a stop.

When flames began shooting from the truck, witnesses and police tried to rescue Wendorff, but were not able to get close enough due to the fire.

According to New Prague Fire Captain Pete Kartak, the truck was fully engulfed by the time firefighters were on the scene. We extinguished the fire in about five minutes
