Receiving the monthly report and discussing highway department business with the county engineer dominated the Tuesday, Nov. 7 meeting of the Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners.

The general election day session held at the courthouse in Le Center consisted of a brief agenda which also included a public health proposal, a personnel action, upgrade for sheriff's department computer system, county ditch repair requests and a resolution to dedicate a portion of tax forfeited land receipts to the park fund.

County Engineer Darrell Pettis gave his monthly report for the department, including construction and design projects for 2007, maintenance update, requests for equipment purchases and miscellaneous items.

Two projects, CSAH 15/46/13 at Cleveland and the CSAH 3 bridge south of Kilkenny are virtually finished.

The tax abatement hearing for TH 169/CSAH 28 Le Sueur Hill area for future transportation design work and improvements is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. during the county board meeting. Pettis said if the abatement is granted, some aerial photography of the area will be needed for future reference and planning, at some cost to the county.

The board approved two budgeted purchases for the highway department: A Trimble 5800 GPS System for advanced survey work from Frontier Precision Inc. of Bloomington for $52,549, and a Vicon Rotary Disc Mower from Matejcek's of Faribault for $5,318, both under state contract.

Also at Tuesday's meeting:

• The board granted permanent status to Abby Beer, RN in the public health department effective October 24, 2006, upon recommendation of Peggy Donovan, personnel coordinator.

• MIS Director Scott Gerr's request for budgeted purchase of Office 2003 computer upgrade for the sheriff's department at a cost of $4,600 was approved. Gerr said the upgrade would provide much faster service to retrieve records for the department.

• The board approved request by Cindy Shaughnessy, director of public health, to increase workday hours from 7.5 to 8 for 18 staff personnel in her department effective January 1. She said the increase would not affect her budget, since additional funds have become available.

• Repair requests for County Ditch #15 in Kilkenny Township and County Ditch #34 in Sharon Township were received and will be referred to SWCD ditch inspectors for review.

• A resolution was approved to designate 20 percent ($389) of tax forfeited land receipts to the park fund, according to state statute.

• County Coordinator Roxy Traxler's last meeting will be Tuesday, Nov. 14, after which she will be leaving for a similar position in Mille Lacs County. The board is working on a job description for hiring a replacement.
