Holiday events fast approaching

Now that Thanksgiving is over, the holiday season has officially begun.
 
The area will have three events over the next with the Torchlight Parade in Montgomery 6:30 p.m. tonight, the Parade of Lights in New Prague 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, and Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 7.
 
The December 5 Torchlight Parade will be on First Street and features approximately 40 entries. Leading the parade will be this year’s button designer, Charlotte Houn, daughter of Jason and Jenny Houn. Also leading the parade will be this year’s junior grand marshals, Anastasia Stasney, daughter of Dean and Cathy Stasney, and Ethan Huber, son of Missy Huber and Troy Huber.
 
The evening caps off with fireworks on the north end of Main Street around 7:30 p.m.
 
The annual Breakfast with Santa will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the TCU High School for children who are eight-years-old and younger. The event lasts from 8 to 11 a.m. There will be storytime, projects, food, playdough, fun and more at the event that is sponsored by the TCU Early Childhood programs.
 
New Prague’s Parade of Lights on December 6 will feature various area clubs and businesses ringing in the holidays on floats or in vehicles. The parade goes east to Memorial Park for the Holiday Celebration in the Park with Santa visiting. There will be activities including a tree lighting at 7:15 p.m. and fireworks immediately following.
 
Other events
• 2nd annual “Home for the Holidays Expo/Craft Show” on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Montgomery American Legion. More than 40 local crafters and vendors will be at the event.
• The annual “Lighting Contest” is co-sponsored by Edel Town and Country Realty and the Torchlight Parade and Fireworks Committee. The contest features prizes for residential and businesses who participate. Entry forms are available at CornerStone State Bank, Frandsen Bank and Trust, Fred’s Market Place Foods, Herrmann Drug, and Edel Realty. The deadline to register is December 10. Registrations should be turned into Edel Town and Country, 101 1st Street South, Montgomery. 
 
Christmas Programs
The schools in the area will hold their Christmas programs during the next week. Here are some of the program dates:
• HRS, Monday, Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
• Lonsdale Elementary, Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2 and 6 :30 p.m. in the school gymnasium.
• Montgomery Elementary, Thursday, Dec. 12, 2 and 6:30 p.m. in the TCU Auditorium.
• Montgomery Middle School, Monday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. in the TCU Auditorium.
• Le Center Elementary School, Thursday, Dec. 12, 6:30 p.m. in Le Center.
