Holy Cross School is ready for 2004-05

Holy Cross School
Although I must say that summer passed too quickly for many reasons, there are a number of reasons I am feeling ready for the start of the 2004-2005 school year.
At Holy Cross Catholic School, we have been planning for the upcoming year since the last day of last school year. Over the summer, three of our nine full-time teachers continued to work through their master’s programs, thousands of pages of professional reading was pored over by many, and several meetings and conversations between co-workers occurred, all in preparation for the upcoming school year.
After holding a workshop on Comprehensive Literacy last spring, our staff has been working to implement specific reading and writing strategies. Training will continue in the areas of Guided Reading and Writing during the 2004-2005 school year.
Aside from staff development, many additional items are being developed to benefit our student body. We are pleased to announce that we will be offering an after-school care program until 6 p.m. each evening, with the intention to expand hours. The kindergarten through fourth grade teachers are excited to begin a new Spanish program in their classrooms using a video program. We hope to enhance our existing fifth through eighth grade Spanish program. In order to improve our art curriculum, we have hired an art teacher for our K-8 students. Last, but certainly not least, our dedicated volunteers continue to work on building one new facility for Holy Cross. At the completion of the project, our students will all be housed in one building; a benefit for students, parents, and staff.
We are looking forward to a great year at Holy Cross, and we are excited to see the students on Wednesday, Sept. 1!
