An investment in New Prague

Last week saw New Prague’s largest employer celebrate its 50-year history in the community and a major expansion.

Chart Industries has invested a signficant sum - $23 million - in the future of New Prague. At a time when the business is growing, it chose to expand its operations in New Prague when it could have chosen any number of other places to build its new plant.

Why New Prague? Chart’s DNS Division President perhaps said it best during the ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, June 28, when he said that of his company’s products, “None are better engineered, with as high a quality as those in New Prague.”

That is indeed high praise, and it is a nod not only to the current workforce at Chart Industries, but also to the pioneers in the cryogenic industry that founded Minnesota Valley Engineering 50 years ago who helped establish the company as an industry leader in cryogenics and the storage of gases. Their foresight and hard work no doubt influenced Chart’s leaders to make the decision to expand its investment in New Prague. Hopefully, not only will the company benefit from the added production capability, but the community will benefit from the additional jobs and tax revenue.

Hats off to Chart Industries, its local employees, and to all those who played a role in helping the company with this major expansion project.
