Joan Eaton, 77

Joan M. Eaton, 77, of New Prague, died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Born June 22, 1934, in Eveleth, Joan was a daughter of Joseph and Assunta (Amadori) Marcaccini. She attended Eveleth Public Elementary and High School, spent two years at Eveleth Junior College and was a graduate of St. Scholastica College in Duluth. Joan married James Eaton on July 30, 1960, in Eveleth. She taught at Montgomery, Grand Marais, Eveleth and New Prague, where she was a Title 1 teacher at the public school and St. Wenceslaus. Joan was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Choir and enjoyed bowling, needlepoint, bridge clubs and international travels.

She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years; seven children Thomas (Sandy), New Prague, Joseph (Shari), Eagan, Elizabeth Eaton (and Curtis Engebretson), Stillwater, Kathryn (Todd) Scheffler, Waunakee, WI, Pamela (Randy) Muetzel, Oakdale, Charles (and Donna Simon), New Prague, and Margaret (Dan) Seymour, New Prague; 20 grandchildren; siblings Lawrence Marcaccini, San Francisco, CA, Adelina Ojanpa, Virginia, and Irene (Robert) Long, Vancouver Island, B.C.; sisters-in-law Leona Marcaccini, Eveleth, and Constance Marcaccini, Virginia; and several friends and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers Geno and Guido Marcaccini.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 10, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating.

Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague. Pallbearers were grandchildren Danielle, Neal, Dylan, Chelsea, Rachel, Rebecca, Nick, Ava, Jonathan, Christopher, Samuel and Anna Eaton, Connor and Emily Scheffler, Brianna, Amber and Ted Muetzel, Carter, Kate and Will Seymour.

Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
