John Cauley, 74

John “Jay” Cauley, 74, of Faxon Township, rural Belle Plaine, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at his home.

He was born on the family farm in Faxon Township on December 17, 1938, a son of James and Marie (Buesgens) Cauley. He was raised on the family farm and attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Belle Plaine. After school, he continued working on the family farm, and on October 16, 1965, he married Adeline Kubes at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. After their marriage, they lived on the family farm. Later he worked for 13 years as a security guard for Rolland Security, and a number of years as a security guard at Mystic Lake Casino, until his retirement in 2010. Jay enjoyed taking care of his livestock, had a liking for draft horses and enjoyed listening to Paul Harvey on the radio. He had a great knack for remembering people and places, enjoyed visiting and loved his family.

He is survived by his wife; a son Curtis (fiance Ashley); nephew Scott (Monica) Kubes, all of rural Belle Plaine; a sister Mary (Dale) Ely, Rochester; mother-inlaw Inez Kubes, New Prague; brother-in-law Jerry Kubes, Henderson; grandchildren Marissa and Samuel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and father-inlaw George Kubes.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m., at the Wagner Funeral Home in Belle Plaine, with Pastor Joseph Thunker officiating. A private family burial will be held at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Faxon Township in the spring.

Visitation was held Wednesday at the funeral home starting at 2 p.m., and continuing until the services.
