John Hertaus Jr., 46

John Lawrence Hertaus Jr., 46, of Webster, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at his home.

John was born on February 23, 1966, in New Prague, a son of John R. and Rita (Kadlec) Hertaus. A lifelong resident of the New Prague area, he attended New Prague Elementary and High School. He married Joseth Tikalsky on October 23, 1990, in New Prague. John served 21 years in the Army Reserves, and was acting command sergeant major. He was employed as a carpenter with Paul and Steve Skluzacek, and then Hertaus Construction for the last 22 years. He also farmed with his brothers and served as treasurer for the Veseli Baseball Club. John loved fishing and hunting and enjoyed attending his kids’ activities in band, baseball, softball and basketball.

He is survived by his wife; children Julia Hertaus, Jeanna Hertaus and John C. Hertaus III, all of Webster; his parents; parents-in-law Robert and Joyce Tikalsky; three brothers, Christopher (Nancy) Hertaus, Webster, Carl Hertaus, Webster, and Craig (Michelle) Hertaus, Cleveland; and nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 28, at 10 a.m., at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Veseli, with Rev. John Lapensky officiating.

Interment is at the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Veseli. Pallbearers are Christopher Hertaus, Carl Hertaus, Craig Hertaus, David Skluzacek, Jerry Skluzacek and Bruce Bartusek.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague. Parish wake prayers will be Thursday at 7 p.m.
