Joseph J. Sirek, 80

Joseph J. Sirek, 80, of New Prague, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Veseli, with Rev. John Lapensky officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be at St. John's Cemetery in Veseli. Pallbearers will be Tony and Philip Bisek, Stanley Tuma, Andrew, Tara and Crystal Sirek.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17 and from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague, with parish prayers to be held Sunday at 7 p.m.

Joseph was born December 22, 1925 in Cedar Lake Township, Scott County, a son of Mathias Thomas and Bessie (Barta) Sirek, Sr. He attended Scott County District School and Veseli Parochial School. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and married Evelyn Maxa in Montgomery on September 3, 1949. He was a member of the New Prague VFW and American Legion and the Catholic Workman Association. He was a mechanic for Faribault Canning Co. for 22 years and also worked for Adolfson Peterson Construction as a laborer. Joseph also farmed and was a lifelong resident of the Webster/New Prague area.

He is survived by his wife; children, Gilbert (Mary Jean) Sirek, Byron, Marlene A. King, Bloomington, Richard G. (Linda) Sirek, Webster; two brothers, John M. Sirek and Mathias T. (Diane) Sirek, Jr., both of Webster; five sisters, Catherine Bisek, New Prague, Mary (Norbert) Regnier, Marion, IA, Ann (Alfred) Zaun, Shakopee, Roseann Solheid, New Prague and Sister Adelia Sirek, O.S.B., St. Cloud; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Ronald Sirek in infancy and Andrew John Sirek; son-in-law, John King; one brother, Francis J. Sirek; two brothers-in-law, Gilbert Bisek and Harold Solheid; and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Sirek.
