Joyce Sladek, 67
Joyce Lucille Sladek, 67, of Edina, died Friday, May 9, 2008, at the Martin Luther Manor Nursing Home.
A daughter of Ralph and Lillian Poole, she grew up in north Minneapolis, attended Ascension Grade School and graduated from St. Anthony of Padua High School in 1959 and from the University of Minnesota in 1966, with a major in anthropology and minors in political science and psychology. She was married to Dr. Norman E. Sladek, PhD. Joyce worked as a tax practitioner for over 25 years at the Internal Revenue Service, Coast to Coast, Inc. and Lurie Besikof Lapidus & Company. She held numerous volunteer positions within the Countryside (Edina) Elementary Parent Teacher Association, Edina Girls Athletic Association, Edina Youth Softball Association, Czech and Slovak Sokol Minnesota Organization and the United Way. Joyce enjoyed bowling, golf, skiing, theater, classical music, reading and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband; daughter and son-in-law Theresa Sladek and Todd Dale, daughter and son-in-law Rebecca Sladek Nowlis and Joshua Sladek Nowlis, daughter and significant other Melissa Sladek and Scott Hawxhurst; three grandchildren Eliana Sladek Nowlis, Andrew Evan Dale and Luke Sladek Nowlis.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 17, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Avenue South, Edina, MN 55435. Visitation is from noon to 3 p.m., with a formal Celebration of Her Life
