Joyce Weldon, 88
Joyce Mary Weldon, 88, of Belle Plaine, died Friday, May 31, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in New Prague.
Joyce was born on August 5, 1924, in St. Thomas, a daughter of James and Mary (Bachmann) Connelly. She grew up in St. Thomas, attended country school and graduated from Le Sueur High School. Joyce taught in country schools in Le Sueur, Scott and Sibley counties. She also substitute taught at local Catholic schools and also taught religion. She was a member of the C.C.W. and also sold World Book Encyclopedias. She was a “Befriender,” delivered for meals on wheels and was a eucharistic minister. Joyce married Robert Weldon on September 25, 1948, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in St. Thomas. They farmed in Blakeley Township until the early ‘70s, and remained on the family farm until 1988 before moving into Belle Plaine.
She is survived by children Ann Baumann, Belle Plaine, Tom Weldon, Eagan, Peggy (Jon) Schuette, Belle Plaine, Mary (Dale) Radanke, Prior Lake, William (Cindy) Weldon, Bloomington, Robert Jr. (Cathy) Weldon, Belle Plaine, Kevin Weldon, Belle Plaine, Katie (Kirk) Lowe, Walker, Michael Weldon, Cordova, TN, and Jane (Brent) Meyer, New Prague; foster child Jane Luther, Oakdale; 26 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister Shirley (Don) Farrell; and sisters-in-law Helen and Sheila Connelly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1995; and son Terrence in infancy.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine, with Rev. Michael Kaluza and Rev. Roger Hessian officiating.
Interment was at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine.
