Katelyn Meger receives NCAA's Elite 88 award
Katelyn Meger, a senior from Webster, received several honors as she concluded her collegiate cross country career at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth.
Meger led the Saints to their ninth straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference championship at the conference meet in Duluth on October 31. The New Prague High School graduate finished second overall.
On November 14, Meger ran in the NCAA Division III Central Regional at Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA, to qualify for the National Championships.
Meger finished 43rd of 279 runners at the National Championships, held at the Highland Park Golf Course in Highland Hills, OH. That matched her placing from the 2008 national meet. The top 35 runners earn All-American status, and Meger missed that mark by just 12 seconds.
Meger also received the NCAA's Elite 88 award, the highest scholastic award given to NCAA student-athletes. The Elite 88 award, in its first year, honors the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average participating in the finals site of each of the NCAA's 88 national championships. Meger, a nursing major, has a 4.0 grade point average and is the first St. Scholastica athlete to compete at nationals two times in any sport.
She is the daughter of Bruce and Carol Meger of Webster.
