Kathryn Blau, 85

Kathryn Blau, 85, of Montgomery, died Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, surrounded by her family.

Kathryn was born in Belle Plaine on June 19, 1924, a daughter of Joe and Fran Mohrbacher. She received her nursing degree from St. Catherine's College in St. Paul and married William V. Blau. She pursued a career as a hospital nurse and as a school nurse with the Montgomery-Lonsdale School District until her retirement. Kathryn volunteered her time and talents to various school, church and community activities, fundraisers and special events. She was a long-time parishioner of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Although she was born and raised in Belle Plaine, she often said that Montgomery was her adopted hometown-and she loved its people and the Czech culture and heritage. Upon retirement, she remained active in the community and in the Peace Center in New Prague. Kathryn enjoyed playing cards, dancing, traveling with her husband, reading and journaling. She loved sending and receiving greeting cards and often posted the ones she thought especially meaningful around her home for others to appreciate.

She is survived by four sons Peter (Lucia), Bill (Terri), John (Sigrid) and Jim; 10 grandchildren Annalissa, Kelly, Ashley, Julian, Robin, Colin, Julie, Laurie, Jennifer and Jim; two great-grandchildren Amy and Sam; and a brother Richard (Barb) Mohrbacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery on Monday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m.

Visitation was at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m., and one hour before the service at the funeral home.
