Kids Fishing Seminar is Feb. 18

Hey boys and girls, it’s time again for the Youth Fishing Seminar, sponsored by the New Prague Sportsman's club.

I really enjoy working with the club putting on the seminar. Kid these days don’t’ have the chance to see and learn some of the things we do in the seminar.

The seminar opens with a great safety and fishing safety program, then the kids get a chance to participate in the Zebra Bassmaster’s Kids Casting Contest. Here, they learn several different techniques of casting. They also have a chance to win some great prizes. Of course, the winners can go on and compete in the state and national events. Some of our students have done very well in the past.

We also have a great filleting program. Here, we show the kids many different ways to clean fish. This year we also show them what to do with fish you don’t eat right after cleaning.

Kids will also learn about different types of tackle and their uses, as well as presentation techniques.

While the kids are there, they can ask questions.

The club also provides a great lunch during the day and they hand out the fishing grab bags. These are full of tackle and lures that anglers would want.

The program will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the New Prague Intermediate School gym. All children, ages 4-13 can participate, and admission is free. Because space is limited, children must sign up ahead of time to make sure they get a spot in the seminar. To register, call Gene Palma at 952-758-4039.
