Kilkenny woman turns 100 on Sunday
Through her nearly 100 years on this earth, Verna Ziegenhagen, of Kilkenny, has had a partner with her every step of the way.
“I feel that God gave me a lot of things to do in this world, and God was with me all the while,” she said. “And because I believed in God, he gave me the love for children.”
Verna becomes a centenarian when she turns 100 years old on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017.
The Kilkenny resident was born February 19, 1917, to Henry and Rosa Ziegenhagen at a farmhouse in Lexington, where she lived for the majority of her life.
Even though she will soon be 100, Verna’s memory is as sharp as ever. The middle daughter of three girls even remembers the story of her birth.
“I was born during a big, big snowstorm. The doctor had to come out in a cutter with one horse. The cutter tipped over and all of his equipment that he was using for me fell out. The harness came off the horse. It was about one mile from our house. But I waited for him,” she chuckled.
