Kitty Schroeder, age 73

Kitty Schroeder, age 73, of New Prague, died peacefully in her sleep after an extended illness, on Saturday, September 10, 2016. Kitty was born July 11, 1943, in Minneapolis, to Emmett P. & Mary P. (Fitzsimmons) Ryan. She was raised in Excelsior, MN and attended St. John’s Catholic School and Minnetonka High School.

Following high school, she attended Model Beauty School in Minneapolis. Kitty married Harold A. Schroeder in Enterprise, Alabama, in October of 1964. The couple moved numerous times in their early years, finally settling in New Prague in 1974.

Kitty owned and operated Kitty’s Hair Fashions. In addition, she provided a salon for Keystone Communities and Queens Court and was a regular stylist for Bruzek Funeral Home. She took great pride in her work and loved her time with people.

Kitty had a heart the size of Texas and had a kind word and a ready smile for everyone she met. Despite challenging health issues, she never complained and thought only of others.

Kitty loved music, especially singing with her daughter and siblings. She looked forward to the Dozinky Festival every year. She was very artistic and loved coloring and knitting; many were graced with one of the beautiful scarves she created. She loved to travel, especially to see her son living in Alaska and then Hawaii.

Her greatest love, however, was the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and sisters. There were great memories of swimming and card games with her sisters, especially a good Poker game. Her face lit up when relating stories of her children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends.

Kitty is survived by her husband, Harold, of New Prague; children, Madonna Schroeder (life partner, Steven Freeman) of Shakopee, Lloyd (Kusumal) Schroeder of Honolulu, HI, Jesse (Maxine) Schroeder of Montgomery, Casey Schroeder of New Prague; daughter-in-law, Lisa Prince of Maple Grove; sisters, Micky Halverson of Forest Lake, Madonna (Cy) Kerber of Chanhassen, Clara Bauer of Wadena, Mary (Al) Schroeder of Jordan; grandchildren, Tyler, Megan, Brianna, Ryan, Rylan. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Terrance, Robert, & Joseph Ryan.

Memorial Funeral Service took place Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at 10 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with her brother-in-law, Deacon Al Schroeder officiating. Visitation was held Tuesday from 4-8 PM and Wednesday morning from 7:30-9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home. Lunch followed the service at the KC Hall in New Prague.
