Lady Bucs winning streak reaches seven with three victories

A number of streaks were extended last week by the WEM girls basketball team. Streak No. 1 is a seven game winning streak. Streak No. 2 is a five game home winning streak. Streak No. 3 is a five game Gopher Conference winning streak.

The Bucs defeated Blue Earth Area (46-42) Tuesday, Jan. 12, JWP (77-38) Thursday, and Medford (57-46) Friday.

The wins give the Bucs an 11-3 overall record and a 5-0 record in the conference, which is two games better than NRHEG, USC, and Blooming Prairie.

WEM faces Blooming Prairie Friday at home and travels to USC Tuesday. Thursday WEM hosts Triton in a nonconference battle.

In two of the three wins, the Bucs shot 58 percent from the field, which is a season-best.

WEM hit 18-of-31 from the field against Blue Earth Area, yet only won by four points.

But they led this game by 17 points with 6:28 to play.

The two teams were tied at 20-all at halftime. WEM went on a 19-2 run, holding the Bucs to the south scoreless for nearly six minutes.

Kate Masberg scored seven points, while Tierney Winter, Erika Olson, and Kamryn Kendall each scored four during the second half domination.

Blue Earth Area knocked down three, three-pointers and five free throws down the stretch to keep the game close.

Winter led the team with 16 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds.

Masberg scored 11 points, Olson added nine points and five rebounds, and Kendall had eight rebounds and three assists.
