Last second shot sinks girls at Orono

New Prague's girls basketball team split a pair of non-conference games with teams from the Wright County Conference last week. They defeated Waconia 58-27 and lost to Orono 49-48 on a last-second shot. A third scheduled game against a WCC foe, Mound-Westonka, was cancelled by Mound and will not be made up.

The Trojans were scheduled to play St. Paul Central, the No. 1-ranked team in Class AAAA on Tuesday. On Friday they host Waseca, then finish off their 2006 schedule Thursday, Dec. 21, at Mankato East. They will have 12 days off during the holiday break before traveling to Simley January 2.

Trojans 58, Wildcats 27

New Prague had little trouble controlling Waconia, as they held the Wildcats to less than 20 points each half en route to a 58-27 drubbing. The game was played in New Prague, which was a change from the original schedule.

The Trojans were led by senior Whitney Trecker, who had nine of her game-high 17 points in the first half. Amanda Wagner was the only other Trojan in double figures, with 11. Nine different Trojans figured in the scoring.

New Prague was also aided by 23 Waconia fouls that resulted in 20 free throws made in 30 attempts. New Prague committed just 13 fouls and Waconia made only five free throws.

The game was very physical
