LaVonne Bonnie Vollmar, 89
LaVonne A. Bonnie Vollmar, 89, of New Prague, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague.
Born December 22, 1920, at Jackson, Bonnie was a daughter of George and Evelyn (Eustice) Benda. Born and raised in Jackson, she graduated from Jackson High School and the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul. She moved to New Prague in 1944 to teach English at New Prague High School. She married Dr. Warren W. Vollmar on June 20, 1945, in Jackson. An ardent reader and book club member, Bonnie was a charter member of the New Prague Chapter of AAUW, member of Ladies Guild (Council of Catholic Women) and a Girl Scout leader.
She is survived by nine children Mary Vollmar, Minneapolis, Warren W. (Ann) Vollmar, Cook, Peter (Mary Kay) Vollmar, Faribault; Paula (Phil) Vollmar-Heywood, Minneapolis, Anne Benzell, Minneapolis, Dr. William (Judy) Vollmar, New Prague, John (Rosalie) Vollmar, Eagan, James (Lori) Vollmar, Scandia and Ellen Vollmar, Burnsville; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and siblings Kay (John) Waters, Bloomington, George (Jean) Benda, Alpha and Barbara Gantenbein, Green Bay, WI.
She was preceded in death by her husband on October 7, 2004; her parents; and a sister Farrell Berg.
Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 29, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating.
Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in New Prague. Serving as pallbearers were grandchildren Willy Vollmar, Mary Vollmar, Molly Solberg, Dustin Vollmar, Tobin Vollmar, Emily Benzell, Sarah Benzell, Brianne Vollmar, Kelly Vollmar, Katie Vollmar, Jacob Vollmar and Reid Vollmar.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague, with a CCW rosary recited at 7 p.m. Monday.
