Le Sueur Co. awards bids, approves planning requests

The Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners awarded bids for spring/summer work on county highways and approved four planning and zoning applications as part of the agenda for its meeting held Tuesday, April 24.

County Engineer Darrell Pettis presented the following low bids, which were accepted:

-Highway traffic paint and application county-wide (285 miles), AAA Striping of Rogers, $143,571;

-Seal coat projects, ASTech of St. Cloud, $321,822;

-County-wide bituminous projects, William Mueller & Sons, Hamburg, $3,928,897.

Pettis also received consensus approval for work on the county garage in Waterville ($2,800) and the county garage in Montgomery ($4,200).

Planning and Zoning Administrator Kathy Brockway presented the following requests for action, which were approved:

-Gary Wilmes, Le Sueur (applicant), Allan Wilmes, Le Sueur (owner), a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) to establish a ready mix facility in an Ag District of Sharon Township (with two conditions);

-Roy Winjum, Faribault (applicant/owner), renewal of an existing CUP granted in June 2004 to allow a temporary dwelling for more than one year in an Ag District of Lexington Township (with two conditions);

-Ronald Boelter, Madison Lake (applicant/owner), a CUP to operate a Level 2 Home Occupation in an Ag District of Washington Township.

-Brady Knish, Cleveland (applicant/owner), a CUP to construct a single-family dwelling in an Ag District of Sharon Township.

Also at Tuesday's meeting:

• The board hired Debbie Fischbach as a collections officer in human services and accepted the resignation of Bill Kortz, a deputy in the sheriff's department.

• The board repealed a resolution of December 12, 2006 concerning an abatement loan to the City of Montgomery, due to the dismissal of the Seneca Foods petition for review of 2006 payable real estate taxes by the First Judicial District Tax Court.

• Following discussion with persons involved in the German/Jefferson Sewer District, the board by motion agreed to continue with the district, rescinded the present sewer board membership and asked the lakes association to work up a list of names for possible appointment to a newly-organized board in the future.
